𝗡𝗮𝘀𝗶 𝗟𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗸!
Okay, this is a challenging one; it will completely depend on where you get your nasi lemak and how well you can communicate with the people who are making it.
Nasi Lemak is means rice cooked in coconut milk, but the dish is so much more. Most of it should be gluten-free, but cross contamination is always a risk.
𝗖𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘂𝘁 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗲: this should be consistently gluten-free. Rice is cooked in coconut milk with a pandan leaf.
𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗻: this is the tricky part, it may or may not be gluten-free. While many traditional recipes use tumeric and spices, some fried chicken may also be dredge in wheat flour.
𝗘𝗴𝗴: this part would be inherently gluten-free, but... it all depends on how the egg is cooked. If the egg is cooked in the same oil as the fried chicken, then it's a no go.
𝗜𝗸𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘀: darling little dried anchovies. These 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 be gluten-free.
𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗮𝗹: traditional recipes use naturally gluten-free ingredients, but it is important to check if soy sauce has been added.
𝗖𝘂𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲: all fine here.
If you can find a nasi lemak stall hawker that can confirm the fried chicken is gluten-free, you are good to go. I have found some gluten-free in the past, but sadly that stall is no longer around. If you have any suggestions, please let us know!
