Dr. Brian Schwender is an American Board Certified physician in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology & Hepatology. He has been practicing medicine since 2003 in the United States before moving his family to Singapore in 2014. Prior to joining Tucker Medical, Dr. Schwender practiced in and taught both Gastroenterology and Hepatology, at Singapore General Hospital.
Specialties
With experience beyond general gastroenterology, Dr. Schwender has a special interest in autoimmune diseases of the bowel including Celiac Disease. Throughout his training and clinical experiences, he’s come across many patients with this condition and has been exposed to a wide variety of presenting symptoms.
Local Singapore Community
Dr. Schwender is thrilled to be active in the Singapore Celiac community and is interested in helping others have a better understanding of Celiac Disease and how to accurately diagnose this medical condition, which is critical to helping these patients effectively treat themselves.
Dr. Schwender’s ethos is to combine the highest quality individualized patient care with a holistic approach to health. Having now worked both in the United States and Asia, Dr. Schwender has a deeper knowledge of the local, regional, and global medical conditions affecting patients and the experience to help prevent, and not just treat, disease.

Dr. Schwender is currently a Fellow of numerous professional societies including The American Society of Gastroenterological Endoscopy (FASGE), The American Gastroenterology Association (AGAF), and The Singapore Academy of Medicine (FAMS-Gastroenterology). He was a two-time Gold Award winner for Favourite Gastroenterologist by Expat Magazine Readers Choice Awards from 2018-2019. As a member of the Singhealth Internal Medicine Core Faculty, he received numerous accolades, including the Singhealth Internal Medicine Residency Outstanding Clinician Award, and is currently a visiting consultant for The Singapore General Hospital Inflammatory Bowel Disease Division.
In his personal time, Dr Schwender enjoys spending time with his wife, and their two young children. He’s an outdoor enthusiast enjoying mountaineering, hiking, skiing and golf.
