Gluten Free Bread

A few things you need to know...

  1. Gluten-free bread is denser than wheat bread. This is due to the absence of gluten.

  2. Warm it up! Cold gluten-free bread can feel hard and unappetizing. To improve its texture and taste, always warm up your gluten-free bread before consuming it. Whether you toast it, heat it in a pan, or microwave it, warming it will make it more enjoyable.

  3. Fresh is best. Freshly baked gluten-free bread will always be better than long life shelf stable packs.

  4. First time baking gluten-free bread at home? Start with a packet mix. These mixes use a blend of gluten-free flours and provide clear instructions.

  5. Gluten-free bread has a shorter shelf life compared to wheat bread. To preserve its freshness, store gluten-free bread in the freezer rather than the refrigerator. Slice the bread before freezing and separate individual slices with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

  6. Avoid shelf-stable options. Shelf-stable gluten-free bread found in grocery stores may not offer the best taste or texture. Reserve these options for travel convenience or repurpose them into croutons.

  7. Take a bread break. If you're transitioning to a gluten-free diet, don't rush into trying gluten-free bread immediately. Allow yourself some time, perhaps a few months, to adjust to the new diet and forget the taste of wheat bread. Once you're ready, approach gluten-free bread with an open mind and realistic expectations.
